PROPERTIES
Polypropylene is the most versatile of all thermoplastic materials. Its main characteristics are:
| |
- The lowest density of all major thermoplastics, making polypropylene a favorable cost per volume material, as well as very being very light.
- Excellent stiffness, making it ideal for technical applications, such as in automotive and electrical appliances, a well as furniture, transport containers, and for use in thin-wall packaging.
- High transparency, for household and packaging items where high transparency film is used.
- High Heat resistance, used in technical applications such as in hot water under floor heating and sewage pipes.
- Excellent chemical resistance for packaging solutions such as cosmetics, medical use, caps and closures.
- Low water absorption and water vapor transmission, ideal for thin wall packaging, such as in dairy cups, and for hygiene and geotextile use.
- Stretchability for high tenacity fibers, nonwovens and tape yarns, and biaxally oriented film for flexible packaging, adhesive tape and lamination.
- Easy processing and exceptional versatility used in processes and such as injection molding, film & sheet extrusion, and blow molding.
- A favorable cost to performance ratio, not enjoyed by its competitors, and translates to an investor’s opportunity knocks.
